First-half runs lift Weatherford over TC women’s hoops, 76-47

The Temple College women's basketball team headed north on Wednesday afternoon to take on Weatherford College in North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference action at the Betty Jo Graber Center.

A pair of significant runs in the first half of action boosted the Coyotes to a 76-47 win over the Leopards.

Maiya Wesley, Anna Djukic, and Neso Anisiobi combined on an 7-0 run in the game's opening two minutes to set the tone early.

Emori Lasalle and Kyla Clark pulled the Leopards to within three points on back-to-back field goals to pull the Leopards to within three points with 6:31 left in the opening quarter.

Weatherford (10-6 overall, 2-3 NTJCAC) closed the quarter on a 8-4 stretch, as they led Leopards heading to the second quarter by seven, 15-8.

Temple (11-8 overall, 1-4 NTJCAC) started the second quarter strong, as they sandwiched buckets by Clark and Gabby Edo.

The Coyotes went on a 16-0 run over a 6:37 stretch to put the game out of reach. Lasalle's three-point play with 50.6 left in the first half ended the run, as Weatherford led Temple at the break, 35-15.

The teams combined for 30 points in the third quarter, as Temple began to find offense. Lasalle, Clark, and Antronea Jackson hit three-pointers to give the Leopards some forward momentum, as Temple went into the fourth quarter having trailed by 22 points, 51-29.

Weatherford outscored the Leopard in the final period, 25-18, to clinch the 29-point win.

Temple sank six three-pointers and converted 6-of-9 from the free-throw line.

Lasalle led the Leopards with 14 points. Jackson added ten points and Clark chipped in seven.

Anisiobi led all scorers with 20 points for Weatherford. Albane Beyaert poured in 13 points and Natalia Arseniadou added 12.

Temple will host Southwestern Christian College on Saturday at 2 pm, weather permitting.
