The Temple College Leopards and Weatherford College Coyotes traveled to Hillsboro on Monday afternoon, as they played a tiebreaker game to decide the final seed out of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference to qualify for Thursday's Region V Women's Basketball Tournament opening round game against New Mexico Junior College at MCC.
Weatherford took advantage of periods of Leopards' cold shooting from the floor, and downed Temple, 78-64.
The Coyotes clinched the final North seed, while Temple concluded their season at 20-11.
Both teams started off tentative, with the Coyotes having grabbed an 8-6 lead at the 4:43 mark of the first quarter.
Mychal White, Imani McCary, Biva Byrd, and Jaylice Rosario combined for ten points toward the end of the quarter, as Temple led going into the second quarter, 16-15.
Temple built a seven-point lead with 6:42 to play in the half, as Rosario, White, Janiya Davis, and Gabby Edo combined on a 11-4 run.
The Leopards did not hit a field goal for the remainder of the half, with Weatherford having built a 21-5 run and led by eight at the half, 38-30.
Rosario snapped the Leopards' field goal draught at 9:12, as she hit a basket on a drive through the lane with 7:20 left in the third quarter.
Weatherford's 12-3 run midway through the third quarter built up a game-high 16-point lead with 2:15 to go in the period, 57-41.
Rosario, Davis, and Reagan Pavesi combined to score the final six points of the quarter, as the Leopards trailed by ten heading into the fourth, 57-47.
The Leopards pulled within six points with 2:59 to go. However, the Coyotes closed the game on a 13-5 clip to clinch the game by 14 points.
Weatherford hit a pair of three-pointers and went 20-of-27 from the free-throw line.
Neso Anisiobi led all scorers with 21 points, which included 7-of-7 from the charity stripe. Esther Daniels added 18 points, and Jacque Giron chipped in 13.
The Leopards shot 18-of-24 from the free-throw line and hit a trio of three-pointers.
Rosario led the Leopards with 20 points, White added 13, and Pavesi poured in 11.
The game ended the Temple College careers of sophomores Shalayne Morgan, Aniyah Lewis, Biva Byrd, Janiya Davis, Imani McCray, Scejeoanna Anderson, Tyanna Simpson, Sincere McCallister, and Reagan Pavesi.
