Temple, Weatherford battle in tiebreaker for final conference playoff seed

The Temple College women's basketball team will play Weatherford College for the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference's fourth seed and final Region V Tournament playoff spot at Bob Bullock Gymnasium on the campus of Hill College in Hillsboro on Monday afternoon at 5 pm.

The winner will with play New Mexico Junior College on Thursday at 1 pm at the Region V Tournament, while the loser will conclude their season.

The teams have played each other twice this season, having split their series and having won on the road.

On January 22, Weatherford defeated Temple 70-63 on Kirby Johnson Court. The Coyotes rallied from a five-point deficit with a 27-15 fourth quarter to earn the win.

The Coyotes had two players in double figures with Pearson McVay having scored 17 points and pulled down 14 rebounds and Neso Anisiobi scored 13 points and hauled in 15 rebounds. Naomi Wilson scored 15 points, and Jacque Giron chipped in 13.

Mychal White led Temple with 17 points, nine rebounds, and six rebounds. Aniyah Lewis added 15 points, Imani McCray chipped in 13 points, and Jaylice Rosario poured in eight.

On February 22, the Leopards defeated the Coyotes in Weatherford, 73-62. Temple grabbed a 42-28 halftime advantage and held on for the 11-point win.

White led the Leopards with 22 points. Reagan Pavesi added 14 points and six assists, Lewis chipped in ten points and nine rebounds, and McCray contributed ten points and four steals.

Giron scored 18 points and dished out five assists for the Coyotes. Zion Hayes scored 11 points off the bench, and Anisiobi added ten.

Temple (20-10 overall, 10-6 NTJCAC) has averaged 75.9 points per game in conference, and 78 points per game overall. The Leopards have yielded 62.5 points per game in the NTJCAC and 63.6 points per game overall.

The Leopards have shot 39.9% from the field, 32.8% from behind the three-point line, and 68.5% from the free-throw line.

Rosario (17.3 points per game), White (17.1), and McCray are the leading point scorers in conference play for Temple.

Weatherford (19-10 overall, 10-6 NTJCAC) has averaged 69.5 points per game in NTJCAC play and 73.4 points per game overall. The Coyotes yield 62.4 points per game in conference and 61.9 points per contest overall.

Giron (14.5 points per game), Anisiobi (14.5), McVay (8.5), and Wilson (6.6) are the scoring leaders for the Coyotes.
