The Temple College women's basketball team hosted Tyler Junior College on Friday night, as part of the Temple Classic at Kirby Johnson Court.
The Leopards overcame a two-point deficit at the half with a 29-point quarter and held off a late Tyler run to defeat the Apaches, 73-64.
Tyler jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the game's first 1:21, which forced TC head coach Amber Taylor to take an early timeout to quell the Apache momentum.
Temple was able to settle into their game plan, as they were able to chip into the margin and trailed after the first ten minutes of play, 17-14.
The teams went back and forth with the lead throughout the second quarter, with the Apaches taking a 31-29 advantage into the half.
Seven Leopards combined for 29 points in the third period, while having held Tyler to 15. Temple led at the end of 30 minutes, 58-46.
The Leopards pushed their lead to 17 by the middle of the fourth quarter, 67-50.
Tyler pared the margin to nine points by the end of the game, as they dropped the contest to the Leopards.
Temple converted 18-of-28 from the free-throw line, with Leopards four three-pointers.
Imani McCray led the Leopards with 16 points, nine coming by way of a trio of three-pointers. Shay Morgan contributed 11 points and Mychie White added ten points.
Tyler converted 15-of-18 free throws, but did not have an attempt in the fourth quarter.
Monica Bottley led all scorers with 20 points, and Grace Ezebilo added 18.
In the first game of the tournament, Angelina College downed Cisco College, 61-54. Alicia Rivera-Scott led all scorers with 21 points on seven three-pointers.
On Saturday, Tyler Junior College will take on Cisco College at noon, the Temple College women will play Angelina College at 2 p.m., and the Temple College men will take on Lackland at 4 p.m.
