The Temple College softball team continued North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon, as the No. 5-ranked Leopards took on Ranger College at the Danny Scott Sports Complex.
The Leopards' pitching staff allowed just two hits in ten innings of play, with Kat Kram having fired a perfect game, and Temple scored in all eight at-bats as the Leopards swept the Rangers.
Scores of the doubleheader were 12-0 and 15-0, both in four-and-a-half innings.
Kram's dominance was forged at the start of the contest, having struck out eight Rangers in a row, bridging from two outs in the first inning to one out in the fourth.
Meanwhile, the Leopards began their conquest in the first inning. Lexi Dudeczka singled, and advanced to third on a pair of passed balls. Jasmine Benavidez's sacrifice fly scored Dudeczka to put the Leopards on the board. Following Reese Cottrell's one-out single, Kaiyah Ratu belted a shot over the centerfield wall to put Temple up 3-0.
KyLeigh Cambiano's leadoff walk in the second inning set the Leopards up for a four-run inning. Brooklyn Walton singled home Cambiano after she stole second base. Dudeczka's bunt single set up Benavidez's suicide squeeze bunt single that scored Walton. Cottrell singled home Benavidez and Dudeczka to give the Leopards a 7-0 lead.
Angie DeLeon's one-out single in the third inning set up Cambiano's RBI double. Marli Kennedy's double scored set up Walton's RBI single. Dudeczka walked and Benavidez was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Cottrell's sacrifice fly scored Walton to extend Temple's advantage to 11-0.
Kennedy's double in the fourth inning scored Maycee Griffin for the final run of the game.
Kram picked up the perfect game victory has tossed 65 pitches and thrown 47 strikes. Kram struck out ten in the win.
The Leopards provided 12 hits, with Dudeczka, Cottrell, Kennedy and Walton having each provided two hits. Cottrell had three RBI, and Benavidez, Ratu, and Walton driving home two runs each.
Izzy Garcia got the call in the circle in the second game and retired the Rangers in order in the first.
Temple wasted no time in the bottom of the first hopping onto the scoreboard. Dudeczka singled to start the inning, and Benavidez's triple scored Dudeczka to give Temple a 1-0 lead. Cottrell's sacrifice fly scored Benavidez to double the lead.
Aiyanna Stevenson singled with one out in the second and again with one out in the fifth. Stevenson was stranded in the second and retired on a double play in the fifth.
Ryley Litchfield scored on an error, Walton drove home a run on a sacrifice fly and Dudeczka's steal of home gave Temple three runs in the second inning.
Litchfield's double in the sixth inning scored Ratu to extend Temple's lead to six.
The Leopards sent 14 batters to the plate in the fourth. Benavidez doubled home Walton, Ratu hit a three-run homer to right field, Autumn Simmons' blooped a RBI single to left, and Gisele Salazar and Myah Starks crushed blasted a two run triples to put Temple up 15-0.
Dalanee Ekster closed out the fifth to clinch the doubleheader for Temple.
The Leopards collected 13 hits, led by Dideczka, Benavidez, and Litchfield with two each. Ratu had three RBI and Benavidez, Starks, and Salazar each collected two runs batted in.
Garcia allowed one hit and struck out five in four innings. Ekster allowed one hit in an inning of relief.
The Leopards and Rangers will complete their series with a doubleheader at Ranger College on Thursday.
