No. 22 Temple Softball faces big challenge this weekend in Odessa

The Temple College Softball team got off to a fast start this week with a pair of doubleheader sweeps of Clarendon College on Monday and Kilgore College on Tuesday by a combined score of 31-2.

Temple (4-0) has a team batting average of .506 and an on-base percentage of .551 through four games. The Leopards have scored 31 runs on 45 hits, 12 doubles, one triple, two homers, 28 runs batted in, 16 stolen bases, drawn 13 walks, and have only struck out five times.

Brooklyn Walton has seven hits to lead the Leopards, Kaiyah Ratu has six hits, and a five-way tie for third place (Lexi Dudeczka, Marli Kennedy, Ryley Litchfield, Reese Cottrell) with five hits,

Ratu and Walton have each scored five times for TC.

The Leopards have kept opponents off the scoreboard in 21 of 22 innings and have shut out opponents in the last 17 innings. TC has a stellar staff earned run average of 0.60, with 34 strikeouts and allowed five walks.

Kat Kram (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 17 strikeouts, no walks) tossed a perfect game against Clarendon and Izzy Garcia (2-0, 0.00 ERA, 14 strikeouts, 2 walks) hurled a one-hitter against Kilgore.

The Leopards are perfect in the field in 82 chances.

This weekend, the Leopards travel to Odessa for a two-day, four-game series at the Wrangler Softball Complex.

On Saturday at 10 am, the Leopards take on Luna Community College. At 12 pm, the Leopards face No. 6 Odessa College. On Sunday, TC takes on Odessa at 10 am, followed by Luna at 12 pm.

Odessa (2-2) has played all four of their games at the Battle on the Bosque Tournament in Waco. They lost to No. 11 Chipola College, 2-0, and defeated Blinn College 11-8 on Jan. 29. On Jan. 30, the Wranglers split with No. 3 Grayson College, having lost game one 7-3 and won game two, 6-5.

Through four games, the Wranglers are hitting .250 with an on-base percentage of .380, scored 20 runs on 25 hits, have five doubles, two home runs, 17 runs batted in, have walked 16 times, been hit by five pitches, and struck out 19 times.

Meret Willeke (.385, 5-of-13, HR, 3 RBI) is the top hitter for the Wranglers.

Odessa's staff earned run average is 3.11, with 25 strikeouts and eight walks allowed. Opponents have hit .205 against them.

Seniah Haines (2-0, 6.52 ERA, eight strikeouts, three walks) and Jayda Lorigan (0-02, 1.24 ERA, 17 strikeouts, five walks) are the Wranglers' top two pitchers.

Luna (1-5) lost to Cisco College 15-13 and 15-4 in Clyde, beat Ranger 9-3 and lost 20-17 in Ranger, and lost to Western Texas College 19-3 and 11-3 in Hermleigh.

Following the weekend series, the Leopards will play San Jacinto College – South in Houston in doubleheader action on Tuesday afternoon.
