The Temple College Leopards men's basketball team Hill College in the second home game of their North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference schedule against Hill College on Saturday afternoon at Kirby Johnson Court.
The Leopards broke open a 44-44 game in the second half with a 10-0 run in a two-minute span, while having forced multiple turnovers to defeat the Rebels, 81-62.
Both teams played even basketball through the first five minutes before Hill opened a four-point lead with 11:56 left in the opening half, 16-12.
Temple (11-9 overall, 2-2 NTJCAC) tied the contest a 18-18 with 10:45 left in the half, as the teams started a tug-of-war with the lead, with neither team having led by more than three points.
The Leopards led by two before Hill (4-13 overall, 0-3 NTJCAC) pulled even with a jumper with 47.5 seconds left in the half. TC and Hill were tied 39-39 at the half.
The team traded baskets to start the second half before Temple posted a 10-0 run to lead 54-44 with 15:57 to play.
The Leopards closed the game on a 16-6 run that covered the final 8:46.
Temple shot 14-of-21 at the free-throw line and hit nine three-pointers.
Roy Gardner scored 21 points to lead Temple. Jaymes Brown-Peterson added 18 and Josh Telfort chipped in 13.
Hill converted 8-of-12 free-throws and hit four three-pointers.
Hamzah Abdullahi, Temi Omotoyinbo, and Joshua Louis each had ten points for Hill.
Temple will travel to Weatherford on Wednesday afternoon to take on the Weatherford College Coyotes.
