The Temple College men's basketball team took their second road trip of the North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference season as they took on the Grayson College Vikings in Denison.
Down 13 points with 3:20 to play, the Leopards mounted a final 16-4 run. The final shot went in at the horn, but left the Leopards a point short as they dropped a 99-98 decision to the Vikings.
Harry Bates, Roy Gardner, and Jaymes Brown-Peterson hit field goals to give Temple an early 7-0 lead 2:03 into the game.
Julian Greer hit four consecutive shots over a span of 1:23 to pull Grayson to within two points, 9-7, with 16:30 left in the half.
Temple (10-9 overall, 1-2 NTJCAC, 0-2 road) pulled out to a 15-point lead after a 26-14 stretch over eight minutes.
Grayson (3-15 overall, 1-1 NTJCAC, 1-1 home) slashed into the margin over the final eight minutes of the half, making up seven points on the Leopards and trailed Temple at halftime, 52-44.
The teams traded baskets early in the second half before Grayson's 7-0 run over a span of 1:38 tied the game at 57-57 with 14:40 left in regulation.
With the score tied at 61-61 at the 13:40 mark, Grayson used 10:20 of clock time to outscore Temple 34-21 to garner a 13-point lead with 3:20 to play, 95-82.
Brown-Peterson, Gardner, Josh Telfort, and Ovie Agbigbe combined for 14 points down the stretch, as the Leopards trailed 99-96 with 6.5 seconds to play. However, the three-point shot was missed and Brown-Peterson made the putback as time ran out as the Leopards' comeback fell a point short.
Temple converted 29-of-41 free-throws and drained four three-pointers.
Telfort led the Leopards with 24 points, which included 8-of-10 from the free-throw line. Brown-Peterson added 22 points, which included 12-of-13 from the charity stripe. Bates poured in 22 points.
Grayson converted 21-of-34 free-throws and hit eight three-pointers.
Julian Greer led all scorers with 39 points, which included four three-pointers and 5-of-5 from the charity stripe. Dupree Fletcher, Jr. added 27 points, which included a trio of three-pointers and 7-of-9 from the free-throw line.
The Leopards will host Hill College at 4 pm on Saturday at Kirby Johnson Court.
