The Temple College Leopards baseball team hosted Hill College on Friday afternoon in the final two games of their North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference series at the Danny Scott Sports Complex.
In a pair of competitive, low-scoring contests, the teams split the doubleheader.
Cameron Bartz's one-out single in the bottom of the seventh scored Easton Rinewalt to give Temple a 3-2 win in the opener. The Leopards challenged down to the wire in the second game, but a close force play at second base to end the contest gave Hill a 2-1 win.
The Leopards and Rebels were scoreless in the opener before Kade Davis' two-run homer scored Kash Millar to put Temple on the board in the bottom of the sixth.
Jeziel Serrano, who homered and drove in five runs in the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader, hit a two-run homer in the top of the seventh to tie the game, 2-2.
Hunter Baros singled to start the bottom of the seventh and was run for by Easton Rinewalt. Elias Leon-Padilla sacrificed Rinewalt to second. On the first pitch from reliever Garrett Pennington, Bartz singled to centerfield as Rinewalt raced around to score the winning run.
Bartz, Davis, and Peanut Brazzle each had two hits.
Joseph McMurtry picked up the win, as he pitched six innings, allowed two runs on three hits, struck out seven, and walked two. Carson Henderson pitched an inning and struck out two.
Hill jumped out to a 1-0 lead with one out in the first on the solo homer by Thomas McHugh.
Davis singled home Wade Stallones in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game at 1-1.
Dryden Fuoco singled home Chad Pantuso to give Hill a 2-1 lead with one out in the top of the sixth.
The Leopards had runners on first and second with two outs in the bottom of the ninth. Serrano made a diving play behind the second base bag and flipped the ball to Sam York on an extremely close play to end the game.
Tanner Cooper had three of Hill's eight hits.
Max Fritsch went 3 1/3 innings, allowed one run on one hit and walked one. Dalton Hoffart picked up the win in relief, as he pitched 5 2/3 innings, allowed three hits, two walks, and struck out five.
Davis pitched seven innings, allowed two runs on five hits, walked three, and struck out two. Collin Toedter pitched two innings of relief and walked one.
Hill improved to 30-14 on the season, and 15-9 in conference play, one game ahead of TC (28-19, 14-10 conference
The Leopards will host McLennan Community College on Wednesday at the Danny Scott Sports Complex.
