TC Baseball meets solid competitive battles at Midland, Odessa

TC Baseball meets solid competitive battles at Midland, Odessa

The Temple College Baseball team made a trip out west this weekend to take on the No. 2 Midland College Chaparrals and Odessa College Wranglers.

On Friday, the Leopards and Midland locked up in a single-game matchup.

The Leopards picked up the first run. However, the Chaps scored in the second through sixth innings and won in run-rule fashion, 11-1.

Elias Leon-Padilla's double scored Kade Davis to get the Leopards on the board in the top of the first inning.

Peanut Brazzle had two of Temple's seven hits in the contest.

The Leopards' pitching staff combined for 5 1/3 innings pitched, allowed 11 runs on 11 hits, struck out eight and walked five.

AJ Velarde had three hits, and Caleb Edgar, Bammer Maes, and Dylon Myrow each had two hits for Midland. Myrow, Velarde, Edgar, and Jorge Gil each had two RBI for Midland.

Logan Flores picked up the complete game win for the Chaparrals, as he pitched seven innings, allowed a run on seven hits, struck out five and walked two.

On Saturday, the Leopards and Wranglers battled in doubleheader play.

In game one, the Leopards overcame a 2-0 deficit in the top of the seventh inning as Chase Fricke's one-out, three-run proved to be the game-winning hit as TC took game one from Odessa, 3-2.

Joseph McMurtry got the start for Temple and held the Wranglers off the scoreboard until the bottom of the fifth inning. Luke Holley's RBI single and an error that scored Jacob Delgadillo gave the Wranglers a 2-0 lead.

With one out in the top of the seventh, Davis and Brazzle singled. Fricke drilled the first pitch he faced from reliever K Alston over the right field fence to give Temple the lead, 3-2.

Carson Henderson struck out the Wranglers in the seventh to clinch the game.

Fricke had two of Temple's five hits.

McMurtry picked up the win on the hill. He pitched six innings, allowed two unearned runs on three hits, struck out six and walked three. Henderson picked up the save with a scoreless, hitless seventh.

In the second game, the Leopards grabbed a quick lead, but could not overcome a five-run deficit late as Odessa won, 7-5.

Mateo Garcia collected three hits and drove in three runs, and Nathaniel Mendoza and Bach Hartwig homered for the Wranglers.

Brazzle had two of Temple's eight hits and drove in two runs.

Davis picked up the loss on the hill, as he allowed seven runs on six hits, walked six, and struck out four. Bralen Veazey pitched two innings, allowed a hit and struck out two.

Temple will start North Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play on Wednesday as they will play a doubleheader at Vernon College.
