Leopards gain doubleheader split at Galveston College

The Temple College baseball team took a business trip to the Texas coast on Tuesday, as the Leopards faced the Galveston College Whitecaps in non-conference doubleheader play.

The Leopards produced 16 runs over the 14 innings of the doubleheader and were in both games. TC gained a split of the twin-bill.

Galveston won game one, 12-10. Temple bounced back to take game two, 6-4.

Temple trailed 5-0 in the top of the fifth inning in game two when they posted four runs to pull to within one.

The Whitecaps scored a run in the bottom of the fifth to push the margin back to a pair.

The Leopards scored six runs in the top of the sixth, capped by a grand slam by Chase Fricke, to give Temple their first lead of the day, a 10-6 advantage.

Galveston mounted a six-run rally in the bottom of the seventh, included a walk-off grand slam to give the Whitecaps the win.

Sage Sanders and Wade Stallones each had two hits in Temple's six-hit performance. Fricke had five runs batted in, and Hunter Baros added two RBI.

Peyton Reynolds got the start on the mound, pitched 3 2/3 innings, allowed five runs on seven hits, struck out four, and walked two. Collin Toedter pitched an inning of relief, allowed one run on two hits, walked one, and struck out one. Carson Henderson pitched two innings of relief, allowed four runs on four hits and struck out one. Landon Miller took the loss, allowed two runs on one hit, and hit a batter.

Having faced a 2-0 deficit in the first inning in game two, the Leopards responded with a run in the second.

Galveston countered with two runs in the third, in which Temple scored three runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 4-4.

The Leopards took the lead for good in the top of the sixth with a pair of runs.

Kade Davis had three hits, which included a homer, double, and three runs batted in. Kash Millar added two hits, as Temple collected nine in the game.

Thomas Perez got the start on the hill, pitched two innings, allowed two runs on two hits, struck out two and walked one. Kade Shaw came on in relief, allowed two runs on their hits, and walked two. Quentin Medrano picked up the win in relief, threw three innings, walked three, and struck out two.

Temple (7-5) will host No. 2 Blinn College on Saturday in doubleheader play. The teams played in Brenham on Feb. 11, with the Buccaneers having won the first game (5-3) and Temple having outlasted Blinn in game two in 11 innings, 1-0.
