Leopards Baseball sweeps Galveston College

Leopards Baseball sweeps Galveston College

On Tuesday afternoon, the Temple College baseball team hosted Galveston College in doubleheader action at the Danny Scott Sports Complex.

Temple's offense hit Galveston's pitching well in the opener and got a go-ahead three-run homer from Kash Millar the second game to help the Leopards sweep the Whitecaps.

Scores of the doubleheader were 9-2 and 3-2.

Temple (4-2 overall) set the offensive tone by scoring three runs in the bottom of the first. Kade Davis' double scored Wade Stallones, Kanyon Millar's double scored Davis, and Hunter Baros reached base on an error that scored Chase Fricke.

After Josh Garcia's homer put the Whitecaps on the board in the second, Temple responded with two runs in the bottom of the frame. Davis' sacrifice fly score Yarel Delgado and Kanyon Millar's second double of the game scored Stallones.

The Leopards opened the lead to seven runs in the bottom of the fourth. Davis' triple scored Stallones and Fricke's sacrifice fly scored Davis to make the score 8-1.

Seth Williams scored on Luke Donaghey's triple in the top of the sixth, which was answered by a second sacrifice fly by Fricke to complete the scoring.

Stallones scored four times and collected two hits, as did Kanyon Millar and Stallones. Davis drove in three runs to lead Temple.

Carson Henderson went five innings for the win, as allowed one run on two hits and struck out six. Quentin Medrano pitched two innings, allowed a run on three hits, and struck out three.

Ben Karakasis picked the loss for Galveston, having allowed six runs (four earned) on five hits, walked two, and struck out two.

In the second game, Williams hit the third pitch of the game from Thomas Perez over the right field fence to put Galveston up 1-0.

The Leopard had some early opportunities off Blaze Milam, but was unable to cash in.

Ryan Hernandez deposited a pitch over the right field wall in the top of the fourth to extend Galveston's lead to 2-0.

Kanyon Millar singled to begin the bottom of the fourth. With one out, Peanut Brazzle singled Kanyon Millar to second. With two outs, Kash Millar ripped a 2-2 pitch over the left field fence to give Temple a 3-2 lead.

The remainder of the game boiled down to pitching. James Janek was solid in relief for Galveston. Landon Miller came in for Temple and got the Leopards out of a seventh inning first-and-second jam to lock up the win.

Kash Millar led Temple with all three runs batted in, while Brazzle collected two of the Leopards' six hits.

Perez pitched 3 1/3, allowed two runs on five hits, allowed a walk, hit a batter, and struck out three.

Williams, Hernandez and Ayden Pearcy each had two hits for the Whitecaps.

Milam took the loss, having dealt 3 2/3 innings, allowed three runs on six hits, struck out five and walked one. Janek pitched 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief and struck out one.

Temple returns to action on Feb. 11 as they take on Blinn College in a doubleheader in Brenham.
